Lying in Northeastern Vietnam, Lang Son province has many famous landscape which own precious historical value. This article will bring you to two famous caves you should not ignore when coming to Lang Son.
- Nhi Thanh Cave
Nhi Thanh Cave lies in the center of Lang Son City. It is one of the most worthy-visit destinations when you come to Lang Son. This is a natural stone cave with the length from the entrance to the end door is more than 500 meter. In the cave, there are many amazingly beautiful stalactites in various shapes.

Nhi Thanh Cave is associated with Ngo Thi Si Mandarin. He discovered the cave and had the cave mended in May 1779. Looking from the entrance of cave is the Tam Giac Pagoda where worships all three Confucius (Confucianism), Buddha (Buddhism) and Lao Tzu (Taoism).

If you want to enter the cave, you have to go across Nhat Binh lake. Water here is from Ngoc Tuyen Spring. Being in the cave, you will feel no different from stepping to Caves in Halong. Nhi Thanh Cave is zigzag, it has a lot of corners with different shapes stalactites. Depending on the imagination that every person can imagine images of grapevines, funny animals… Along the cave is Ngoc Tuyen stream murmuring through day and night, it makes the air become cooler.
Beautiful Nhi Thanh Cave
On the left of the cave there carved dragon image and tiger image on the right. The decoration was influenced by Taoism : “Dragon on the left, White Tiger on the right” corresponding to the constellation in the east and west. On the arch of the cave, statue of Ngo Thi Si is carved in the posture of a Taoist Hermit sitting dhyana. This statue is considered one of the high-valued art works at the time.

Nhi Thanh- Tam Giao relics has the annual festival from 15- 17 lunar. Many tourists attend and admire the poetic scenery here.

Inside the relic, there are twenty epitaph carved directly on the cliff directly recorded many precious documents and also the literacy style of famous scholars.

- Tam Thanh Grotto – Tam Thanh Pagoda
Tam Thanh Grotto – Tam Thanh Pagoda is the famous cultural relics of Lang Son province. Tam Thanh grotto lies in the limestone mountains range to the northwest of the city. The mountains range has the appearance of a herd of elephants lying prostrate on the green grass. The grotto is located on the halfway of the mountain. The entrance is about 8 meter in height facing to the east. There are 30 steps to go to the cave with luxuriant trees surrounding.

On the wall inside the grotto, Ngo Thi Si had left a poem carved on the rock to admire the majestic beauty of the nature. The meaning of the poem is “ the spring flows over hundreds of rocks whispering, turning back on to the ahead mountain appearing Vong Phu Mount”. Tam Thanh grotto also has a statue of Buddha (from XVII century) and a lot of spectacular staclatites.

Tam Thanh pagoda is an unique pagoda and located in the cave. The architecture of the pagoda is not like the others. Through the statues arrangement, it can be clearly seen that the worship system is placed according to “Buddha first and Deity second”.
